Quick answer

Parents in India apply for the Super Visa online, then give biometrics at a VFS Global centre, do an immigration medical exam with an IRCC panel physician, and include proof of $100,000 of paid medical insurance from a Canadian or OSFI-authorized insurer. The host in Canada must meet the minimum income for the family size. Government fees are $100 plus $85 for biometrics per person. India has 10 Canada visa application centres run by VFS Global, including Delhi, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata.

The order that works

Super Visa Steps for Parents in India

1. Host checks income

The child or grandchild in Canada checks the minimum income for the family size, counting the visiting parents. Since March 31, 2026, either of the last two tax years can be used. Income checker.

2. Buy the insurance

$100,000 for each parent, a year from entry, paid in full or by monthly plan with a deposit. We email the policy and proof of payment the same day.

3. Apply online

Submit through the IRCC portal with the invitation letter, income proof, relationship proof, insurance and passport copies. Pay $100 + $85 biometrics each.

4. Biometrics and medical

Book biometrics at a VFS centre after the instruction letter arrives. Do the immigration medical with an IRCC panel physician in India.

A typical path. Parents in Ludhiana give biometrics at the Jalandhar VAC and do the medical exam with a panel physician nearby. The insurance is issued in the same week the application goes in, so the proof of payment is in the file. The start date matches the planned flight, and if the flight moves, the start date moves with it, usually for free.

Choosing Super Visa Insurance for Parents from India

The insurance has to be bought from a Canadian insurer or one authorized by OSFI. Plans sold by local insurers in India don't meet IRCC's rule unless they're on that list, so most families buy in Canada through a licensed broker.

Three things matter more than the logo on the policy. First, health: high blood pressure and diabetes are common in parents in their 60s and 70s, and a plan without pre-existing cover won't pay for a heart or sugar emergency. Read our pre-existing conditions guide. Second, payment: monthly plans let you spread the cost, with a deposit that's usually the first and last month plus a setup fee. Third, the start date: match it to the planned arrival, not the application date.

Documents in Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati or another language need a certified English or French translation. We walk the family through the policy on WhatsApp, including who to call first if your parent needs a doctor.

    Visa refused?

Most plans refund the full premium, sometimes minus a small fee, when you send the refusal letter before the start date.
