Canadian immigration doesn't accept monthly Payment plans for Supervisa Applications LEARN MORE

Changes to Super Visa Insurance Requirements to Enter Canada

Please be aware of recent changes for insurance requirements to enter Canada or to apply for the Super Visa.

The Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship has issued new instructions as of July 2022.

_*If the insured is not yet in Canada or is in the process of applying for a visa they will have to pay up their policy for the full one year term. Insurance must be paid in full (quotes and payments in installments are not accepted). The insurance advisor may complete the payment in full on the system by changing dates to pay for 12 months.

The credit card is on file. Call your advisor to make the necessary changes.

The visa holder will require proof of private medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company valid for a minimum period of 1 year from the date of entry. The private medical insurance must:

  • be purchased from a Canadian insurance company
  • be paid in full (quotes and payments in installments are not accepted)
  • cover the applicant for health care, hospitalization and repatriation
  • provide a minimum of $100,000 emergency coverage
  • be valid for each entry to Canada and available for review by the border services officer (BSO) upon request

These ministerial instructions were issued in accordance with the ministerial authority found in subsection 15(4) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and took effect on July 4, 2022. The link to the Canadian government website setting out the new rules for Super Visa applications is set out below. It was updated on July 27, 2022.

If the insured is already in Canada, a monthly payment plan may still be purchased or renewed.
